Early Years
We know that our Early Years Foundation Stage is crucial in securing solid foundations that our children continue to build upon, inspiring a lifelong love of learning. We are committed to ensuring that all children who enter our EYFS develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally through a strong emphasis on the Prime areas, whilst embedding a positive attitude to school. Our aim is to provide an enabling environment, which is carefully planned to promote the learning and development of every child through an engaging and stimulating environment which encourages curiosity and independence. We nurture every child in a safe, caring and inclusive environment where they feel valued and ready to learn.
At the heart of our Early Years are the ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’.
We strive to develop these key characteristics of:
· ‘Playing and Exploring’,
· ‘Active Learning’
· ‘Thinking Critically’
The curriculum provides no barriers to learning and the high ambition it embodies is shared by all staff. We believe that all children deserve to be valued as an individual and we are passionate in allowing all children to achieve their full and unique potential through a carefully designed and inspiring curriculum. The acquisition of language, phonics and reading skills are the foundations upon which we build.
Our priorities are developing strong foundations in:
Early Language and Communication
Early Reading, songs and rhymes
Personal, Social and Emotional skills
Physical development, including mark making
Number skills and Understanding
We want our children to become confident, independent learners so it is vital that they feel safe, supported and nurtured at every point of their time with us. Through high quality interactions and strong, supportive relationships, our Early Years staff challenge and support children to explore, think deeply, develop their communication and vocabulary, while being able to express their interests.
