Physical Education at Auckley School
At Auckley School we value the importance of Physical Education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the vital role which physical activity can play in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural education. We aim to develop our children’s knowledge, skills and understanding of Physical Education, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. Our Physical Education curriculum promotes thinking, selecting and applying skills and stimulates positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle.
Inclusion is at the heart of our curriculum ensuring that individual pupil’s needs and abilities are met through a balance of individual, team and competitive activities. We recognise that Physical Education goes beyond the ‘P.E’ lesson and we ensure we promote a wider curriculum which offers equal opportunities for children to take part in extra-curricular activities and competitions. Daily physical activity and health enhancing activities also play a crucial role in our offer to the children. This includes active cross-curricular lessons, The Daily Mile and regular sporting opportunities at playtimes.
At Auckley, children will learn to acquire and develop a range of skills to enable them to become successful games players, dancers, gymnasts, swimmers and athletes. Their experiences will also be enriched through opportunities for outdoor and adventurous activities.
Auckley children will be able to select and apply a range of skills to all areas of the curriculum. The children will be able to apply certain tactics when necessary to outwit their opponents in game play. They will be able to apply a specific skill or technique in an athletics context and they will be able to select and apply the correct skills to their own creative dances and gymnastic routines. Finally, Auckley children will have the ability to apply the correct skills they have learnt through outdoor adventurous activities to a variety of outdoor settings.
Auckley children will learn how to compare and comment on skills, techniques and ideas that they and others have used. They will be taught how to use their observations to improve their work and performances through both peer and self-assessment.
Our children will leave Auckley School as skilful and intelligent performers. They will acquire and develop skills and perform with increasing physical awareness. They will have the ability to select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas to suit activities that need different approaches and ways of thinking. They will set targets for themselves and compete against others. They will understand what it takes to persevere, succeed and acknowledge others’ success. They will take the initiative, lead activities and focus on improving performances. They will have the competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities. They will lead healthy and active lives and make positive life choices. They have developed positive attitudes to participation in physical activity and embed values such as fairness and respect.
