Phonics at Auckley Primary Academy
At Auckley Primary Academy, we place reading at the heart of everything we do. We believe that strong reading skills open the door to all areas of learning and lay the foundation for future success. To support every child on this journey, we use the highly successful Read Write Inc. phonics programme.
Read Write Inc. is a structured and systematic approach to teaching early reading and writing. It helps children learn to recognise sounds, blend them to read words, and segment them to spell. Through engaging, fast-paced lessons, pupils quickly build confidence and fluency, enabling them to become independent readers.
We teach Read Write Inc with enthusiasm and consistency across the school. Phonics teaching begins as soon as children start school, with early exposure in Nursery and more structured daily lessons in Reception and Key Stage 1. Children learn sounds in a carefully planned sequence and practise applying their knowledge through reading books that are closely matched to their phonics stage. This ensures that every child experiences success and makes strong progress.
We regularly assess pupils to ensure they are working at the appropriate level. This allows us to provide targeted support or challenge, helping every child to keep up and reach their full potential. Our expert team of teachers and teaching assistants are highly trained in delivering the programme and passionate about delivering high-quality phonics teaching.
In addition to developing essential reading and writing skills, Read Write Inc. fosters a love of reading. Children are encouraged to enjoy stories, share books, and develop a lifelong passion for reading.
