Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Auckley Primary Academy, we want every child to feel happy, valued and supported so they can achieve their very best.
We understand that some children may have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and we work closely with families and professionals to make sure each child gets the right help at the right time.
Through high‑quality teaching, personalised support and a strong commitment to inclusion, we aim to remove barriers to learning and help children grow in confidence, independence and wellbeing.
We believe every child can succeed when the right support is in place, and we are here to work with you every step of the way.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s needs, Mrs Gunther is the school SENDCo.
You can contact her through the school office or by email at sgunther@auckleyprimary.co.uk.
From September 2014, Local Authorities must publish information about what services for children with SEND are available and how families can access them. This is known as the ‘Local Offer’.
At Auckley school we acknowledge that all children have different needs and not everyone learns at the same pace or in the same way. If your child is not making the progress that might be expected or an additional need is identified, the class teacher or Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) will speak to you, parents or carers, about our concerns.
Throughout the year we closely monitor your child's progress and if we have concerns about progress we will discuss this with you. We will then monitor your child closely and if deemed necessary they will be placed on the special educational needs (SEN) register.
As part of this process we may carry out additional assessments to understand your child’s needs and set and review individual targets every term. These targets may be relating to their cognition and learning, communication and interaction, their personal, social and or mental health or any identified sensory or physical needs. We will work with you to write a plan to support your child.
In some cases we may feel a need to seek further advice from outside agencies such as the educational psychology team, specialist teaching team or speech and language therapy services - your permission will be obtained for the involvement of any outside agencies.
If you believe your child may have additional needs you can contact Mrs Gunther or your child's class teacher to discuss this with them. The flowchart below demonstrates the steps we will undertake when identifying SEN needs.
